The state-run media in Canada (and the citizen-owned media who do their best to compete with them) all lament, daily (with intra-day lament updates, all day long), the price of a barrel of oil, and the resulting price of gas. (Of course they don’t have the foggiest clue what they’re talking about, but they pretend they do.) Even as I was writing this, the state-owned CBC did a story about the latest rise in gas prices. Report: U.S. ship opens fire on patrol boats near Iran

An American cargo ship opened fire today after it was confronted by patrol boats about 50 miles from the coast of Iran, CNN reports. The all-news network reports that the ship was carrying cargo to Kuwait on behalf of the U.S. military. Reuters quotes an unidentified Defense Department official who confirmed that one of the Military Sealift Command 's contract vessels was involved in the incident.
